ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
The United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD) was established in 1992 as a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It serves as a key forum for examining how science and technology can drive sustainable development, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by developing nations. UNCSTD supports international cooperation and provides policy recommendations on emerging technological trends and innovations.
The main objective of UNCSTD is to harness science, technology, and innovation (STI) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It focuses on bridging the digital divide, promoting equitable access to technology, and ensuring that advancements in science and technology benefit all, fostering inclusive and sustainable progress globally.
