ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
The First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, known as DISEC (Disarmament and International Security), is responsible for addressing issues related to disarmament, arms reduction, and the prevention of threats to global peace and security. Based at the General Assembly in New York, the committee brings together Member States to discuss armed conflicts, arms control, and international cooperation mechanisms aimed at preventing the proliferation of both conventional and non-conventional weapons.
The main objective of DISEC is to strengthen international security by reducing armaments and advancing multilateral agreements that ensure global stability. Its efforts focus on conflict prevention, regulation of the use of weapons, elimination of dangerous arsenals, and the promotion of confidence-building measures among States, always guided by a commitment to peace, diplomatic cooperation, and respect for international law.
