ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL), formally known as the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, was established to address a range of critical issues, including decolonization, peacekeeping, the rights of refugees, and the use of outer space for peaceful purposes. SPECPOL continues the work initiated by the Trusteeship Council, focusing on self-determination and global stability.
SPECPOL’s main objectives include promoting decolonization efforts, resolving disputes related to territorial sovereignty, and ensuring international cooperation in peaceful ventures. This committee plays a vital role in addressing complex political challenges and fostering solutions that uphold the principles of international law and human rights.
